Safeguarding
Promoting a Safer Church
At Willesborough Baptist Church we believe that as God's people we have a clear obligation to do all we can to ensure that children, young people and vulnerable adults in our care are protected from any kind of harm.
To achieve this, the church has approved a Child Protection Policy and has adopted the "Safe to Grow" guidelines on child protection, produced by the Baptist Union for the local church and its youth and children's workers.
The church has also appointed a Child Protection Co-ordinator, along with a deputy, to oversee the appointment of youth and children's workers and to provide training in child protection issues.
Any person wishing to volunteer work with children will be interviewed informally by the Child Protection Co-ordinator and the organisational leader concerned. He or she is then required to complete an application form and references are taken up before the volunteer starts work with the children. As part of this process, all youth and children's workers are required to apply for and submit an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau.
National organisations which form part of the church's youth and children's work also operate child protection policies relative to that organisation.
These procedures have been implemented to reassure parents and ensure the protection of both workers and children.
