A Call to Fast and Pray

2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

The above scripture has been spoken over this Church and indeed our town many, many times.  As we begin our journey together in this new season we want to come together corporately to humble ourselves through fasting and to pray.

We are declaring a time of prayer and fasting each week on a Wednesday culminating in gathering together in Church, on the evening of the 3rd Wednesday of each month, to pray together.  We want these times to enable us to draw close to God and pray about our Church, our community and our own lives as we seek His will in all things.

Every Wednesday we want you to:

  • fast a meal and use that time to pray.
  • on the third Wednesday of every month, fast all day and attend the evening prayer meeting
By committing to a corporate call to prayer and fasting, we are joining together spiritually and committing to the spiritual health of our church.  We don’t have to do this alone; friendship groups could meet to pray together.

It is important to realise that in order to benefit spiritually from fasting, we need to approach it with spiritual intent.  If we simply fast from food, we just starve our bodies.  For fasting to have lasting spiritual benefits, we need to be prepared to submit to our Lord and die to ourselves.  We have come to understand that in order to keep a healthy body, we often have to face the discomfort of exercise.  In the same way, in order to be spirit filled, we sometimes have to face the discomfort of being physically empty.
