Sabbath Rest
Dear Church,
On Sunday we had a service where we learned about the first 5 out of 10 commandments (I hope you can remember the actions we did for the first 5!). One of the commandments we looked at was:
'Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.'
Considering this is one of the all famous 10 commandments it is one we can be utterly terrible at obeying. It is meant to be a day of rest and time with Jesus. Our lives can often be so packed and so busy that we never end up resting because even on assigned days off we are doing bits and bobs that are not restful or beneficial for our souls. Busyness is not good for our bodies and mind so I want to challenge you to start applying the discipline of a Sabbath rest day into your weekly routine, even if it starts as an afternoon Sabbath rest with the hope of working it up to a whole day.
Time with God is never wasted and is the most productive thing we can do for our wellbeing!
With love,
Katie x

SELAH | PAUSE We are taking an intentional pause for the month of August on a lot of what we do as church. However, while this is a physical pause it is not a spiritual one. We pray that in this time of rest and pause it will be one of strengthening and refreshing, of hearing from God and beautiful times of worship.
MARK is on SABBATICAL This means he will not be contactable throughout July and August. Please contact Katie, Paula or one of the elders if you need to at any point. Please also be aware that although the office will be open much of the summer, with staff away at different times there will be less capacity than normal.
