Listen
Dear church family
Listen! What God has to say is wonderful.
We know that God speaks to us because His desire is for a relationship with us, and you can't have a relationship with someone without spending time with them and speaking to them. We also know that we are children of God (John 1:12-13) and I'm not a parent, but I can't imagine that permanent silent treatment is a great method of parenting! You don't have to be incredibly holy and devout to hear God's voice, we can all hear from Him.
To hear God's voice, we must listen. It's like that old saying – we have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak. As a church we only want to do what God is calling us to do. We want to be a family that is obedient to God and follows where He is leading and not try and go our own way.
In September we have some big decisions coming up, on the 15th September we have a church family meeting to vote on the partnership with Brabourne going forward and whether we call Paula as a full-time pastor after her training is finished. For both Brabourne and Paula we want what God wants for them and to be confident in our decisions we need to spend time listening to God and His heart for both decisions.
On the 12th September we are going to have a day of fasting and prayer to dedicate ourselves to listening to what God is saying about these two decisions. Even if it's a working day or you're busy, we can all make time to listen to what God is saying. We will also have another Ruah space from 8am-7pm to facilitate anyone who wants to come and spend time listening in a comfy, peaceful space at church.
'I will listen to what God the LORD says: he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants – but let them not turn to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.' – Psalm 85:8-9.
Lots of love
Katie
