Making Disciples

Dear Church Family

We believe that the Bible is the word of God for us today. This means that when we read the commands that Jesus gave his disciples we recognise that they were not just for a bunch of people thousands of years ago but they are for those of us who consider ourselves disciples of Jesus today. Therefore, we need to be obedient to what Jesus commands us to do (I spoke about obedience on Sunday!). At the end of Matthew, Jesus gives his disciples the great commission telling them to go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything he commanded them. He also reminds them that He will be with them always, to the very end of the age.

So, what does that mean for us? It means we are called to make disciples of all nations. It is our calling to make disciples of Jesus through sharing our faith and intentional discipleship.

When I was younger I remember sitting in sermons in my church being taught on the Bible and things like the great commissioning and sitting there wandering - how? How do I make disciples? How do I serve God? Where do I even start? If you have similar questions then our Disciple-Making teaching afternoon is for you!

On the 20th September Peter Dunn, leader of BigLife Europe and former director of BMS World Mission is joining us to equip us in disciple-making. Peter is committed to raising up disciples who make disciples and seeing movements of churches start around the world. His heart is to help churches become more effective in disciple-making and will be sharing practical ideas to help with evangelism and helping others grow in relationship with Jesus, while drawing on experience from teams and churches around the world.

This is one of many ways that can help us get our heads around our calling of making disciples and helps give us ideas and ways we can implement the great commission in our lives. The teaching afternoon is from 2pm until 4:30pm and if you fancy coming along, we'd love to see you there! Please sign up on the link below:

VISION LUNCH | THIS SUNDAY | AFTER THE SERVICE
If you are new to our church family, relatively new or if you have been coming a while but you are not yet a member, this lunch is for you! Stay after the service to share a meal together and connect with others, hear more about the vision of the church, what membership is all about and opportunities to get involved, all in an informal setting where you can ask any question you might have. Please sign up via ChurchSuite - there is a limit on spaces so sign up to avoid disappointment! (If you have any dietary requirements can you write them in the notes section).

ALPHA - Monday 22nd September ⌚ 6:15pm @ Sevington
NEW Alpha starting 22nd September! Do you have questions about faith and the Holy Spirit or being a Christian? Come to our Alpha course where questions are the name of the game! The course lasts 11 weeks plus one Saturday and is a safe place to ask all those questions, get answers, learn together and also share a home cooked meal. Each evening starts at 6:15pm with a meal at 6:30pm and lasts until approx. 9pm every Monday. Location: Sevington.

REVERB - Tuesday 23rd September and every fourth Tuesday⌚ 1:30pm @ Brabourne Baptist Church
We will be starting a mid-week, daytime service every fourth Tuesday each month from 1:30pm at Brabourne. The first one will be Tuesday 23rd September. This is a shout out to everyone who would like to be involved in making this happen. We need hospitality volunteers and those who would like to lead worship or be part of the worship team playing an instrument and / or vocals. CAP LIFE SKILLS | Monday 29th September | 7pm
Our next Life skills course will be beginning on Monday 29th September in The Well! If you or anyone else you know of is free and wants to come along to learn some different things which may help with life generally, please contact us via the office or register you interest via the form on the website https://www.willesboroughbaptist.church/cap and Anne will get back to you! The feedback from those who have done this course previously has been overwhelmingly positive so feel free to get in touch, even just to find out a bit more about it!

BAPTISM COURSE If you are interested in getting baptised or are curious to see what it is all about about - this course is for you! The course is 3 sessions and they are all on zoom. If you are interested speak to Mark or email him at mark@willesboroughbaptist.church
